Charlotte Burgess

Charlotte Kvislen Burgess, 93, of Bismarck, ND, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday November 6, 2013, at St Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 11, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. She was born in Sanborn, ND, on October 29, 1920, to Olaf and Inga Kvislen. Charlotte was raised in Sanborn. Upon graduation she moved to Bismarck where she attended St. Alexis Hospital School of Nursing. On May 31, 1947, she graduated as a Registered Nurse and married Colburn Burgess. Charlotte and Colburn began their married life in Harvey and Dickinson, ND. Together they had two children, Jeffrey and Debra. In 1958 they moved to Bismarck. While living in Bismarck she continued dedicating herself to her family, friends, and faith. In 1967 she accepted a position as a Registered Nurse at Missouri Slope Lutheran Home, where she worked for the next 25 years. Retirement gave her more time to travel with friends, participate in church activities and be actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. In January of 2007 she moved to Breckenridge MN where she resided until her passing. During this time she made many friends and had wonderful caregivers. Charlotte leaves a legacy of happy memories for those who knew and loved her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her unwaivering faith was shown in her dedication to caring for others throughout her life. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Neil Rittenour; grandchildren, Candace Casey Ehlert, Mark Rittenour, Jennifer Doug Baird Castner, Nicolaus Burgess and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Logan Ehlert, Alexis Castner; brother, Carl Kaye Kvislen; as well as several nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Colburn Burgess; her son, Jeffrey Burgess; her sister, Genevieve Klein; and parents Olaf and Inga Kvislen. The family requests memorials are made to either Trinity Lutheran Church or Missouri Slope Lutheran Home in Bismarck, ND.
