Chris Koppang

Chris Koppang passed away Saturday, November 1, surrounded by his family. Service for the celebration of Chris's life will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 11:00 a.m, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 5, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Chris was born January 13, 1959, in Hillsboro, ND, to Alton and Frances Davidson Koppang. He was the only boy in a family of three girls. Chris and his family moved to Bismarck in 1964. He attended Saxvick Elementary, Simle Junior High, graduated from Bismarck High School in 1977 and attended Bismarck Junior College receiving an associate's degree in power plant technology. Chris was a Boy Scout with Troop 123 in Bismarck, where his father was a scout master. Chris achieved the distinction of becoming an Eagle Scout in 1974. He married Doreen Fischer in 1994 and recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Chris had a strong love for family and spending time with them. His several nieces and nephews called him "Uncle Bug" and he always had "bug hugs" for them. He loved being around his children and especially around his grandchildren. They all loved their papa as much as he loved them. Chris enjoyed many hobbies, including cruising in his Firebird with the top down and the music loud, hunting, fishing, camping and driving around with his furry kids, Alley and Mojo. Chris had a lot of friends. We all know Chris loved to talk and everywhere he went there were people he knew. He was always willing to listen and help someone in need. When Chris was diagnosed with cancer, he said he wanted to spend as much time with his family as he could. As a family over the past 20 months, there have been 2 trips to Deadwood, SD, many weekends camping and time spent together for family birthdays and holidays. Chris was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and loved to watch his favorite team play. His sons took him on a "bucket list" trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they toured Lambeau Field and saw the Packers play. Throughout his journey with cancer, he was overwhelmed by the continued support from family and friends. Chris will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends as he left us way too soon. Chris is survived by his wife Doreen and his children, Wendy Arik Spencer, Jessica Warden, Melissa John Chalupa, Cj Andrea Koppang , Cory Angie Koppang, Brandon Fischer and Joey Pam Fischer; his grandchildren, Christian, Ciara, Kasie, Arin, Claire, Lily, Dylon, Mason, Ryan, Justin, Jax, Lia, and Kaitlyn and his sisters, Angie Koppang, Lorraine Ken Weber and Kathy Mark Baerlocher; his nieces and nephews, Courtney, Lucas, Alyssa, Amanda, Norah, Landon, and Adam honorary. Chris was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter, Sophia Koppang; his mother, Frances Koppang; and his father, Alton Koppang.
