Clara Fairchild

Clara I. Fairchild, 80, Bismarck, formerly of Driscoll, North Dakota, went to her heavenly home to join family and friends on September 23, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM at First Lutheran Church, 800 N. 7th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Allen Wagner and Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 ? 9:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM ? 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:15 PM on Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Clara was born on September 11, 1927, south of Tuttle, North Dakota, the daughter of Jacob and Alvina Nagel Dockter. The family moved to Goodrich, North Dakota, her sophomore year and she graduated from Goodrich High School. Clara was a school teacher at a country school south of Goodrich and in Excelsior Township, Kidder County. She married Dale Fairchild on September 26, 1948. They farmed and ranched in Excelsior Township before moving north of Driscoll in 1958 where they farmed for 34 years. Clara was chief ranch and field hand, milk maid, baker, cook, and seamstress. The house had to be spotless. She was an active member of Zion and Grace Lutheran Church, was a member of the school board, and was involved in community events. She was also an accomplished artist and has been awarded many ribbons. Clara is survived by her husband, Dale of Bismarck; her son, Alan Marsha Rohrich of Livingston, Montana; her daughter, Doreen Fairchild of Bismarck; her grandsons, Terry Donna and their daughters, Andrea and Matteson, Tracy and his daughter, Jessica, and Shane Lea and their children, Michael and Jennifer; her siblings, Hattie Jack Zechiel of California, Robert Sadie Dockter of Wyoming, Irma Ray Stordahl of Minnesota, Elsie Marvin Schmitke of Bismarck, Arnold Sharon Dockter of Bismarck, Florence Vern Kluck of Wyoming, and Dale Linda Dockter of Texas; and her brother-in-law, Red Dessing of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ervin Florence Dockter, Gertie Dessing, Herbert Dockter, and Ester Hertz.
