Clayton Pudwill

Clayton Joseph Pudwill, 82, Bismarck, was called by his Heavenly Father on February 5, 2010, at St. Vincent’s Care Center. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck, where a rosary service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 4:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon Wednesday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Clayton was born on June 20, 1927, in Mobridge, SD, to Paul and Grace Pudwill. He grew up on a farm near McIntosh, SD. Clayton married Dorothy Frank in 1949 and had several jobs that included working at the Homestake mine in Lead, South Dakota. In 1960 the Pudwills moved to Lemmon, SD, and opened the Steak House that he owned and managed for 30 years. The Steak House quickly became a well known place for great dining and entertainment. Clayton had a never-ending entrepreneurial spirit that prompted him to pursue other ventures while running the Steak House. He owned another restaurant/bowling alley on the west side of Lemmon. He started and operated a rodeo arena, golf course and small farm operation that were his passion from growing up on a farm. Clayton was very involved with the Catholic Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a loyal supporter of Boys Town. He was admired for being a strong, hardworking man with a kind and generous demeanor. His whistling and bright smile will be greatly missed. Clayton was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. He spent the last nine years of his life at St. Benedict Dickinson and St. Vincent’s Bismarck nursing homes dealing with this debilitating disease. Clayton had a big heart and loved spending time with his family. Clayton is survived by his sons, Gary and daughter-in-law Sharon, MN, Rodney and daughter-in-law Paula, NV, and Tim and daughter-in-law Sue, ND; his daughters, Dixie and son-in-law Rob, NV, and Diane and son-in-law Dave, TX; his grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Justin, Karen, Kelly, Lauren, Klarissa, Karsten, Elise and Riley; his great grandchildren, Tommy and Jacqueline; and two sisters, JoAnn Phelps, ID, and Jeanette Arnold, NM. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Julia Warren and Virginia Mattern and his brother, Buckley Pudwill. Dad is at peace in his Father's House.
