Constance Boler

Constance Boler, 86, Bismarck, formerly of Fargo and Rancho Mirage, California, died March 16, 2009. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at the Waterford Chapel, 1000 W Century Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum, Fargo. Constance was born September 8, 1922, at Bergen, North Dakota to Helmer H. and Dorothy Wolhowe Blackstead. She attended school in Verendrye, North Dakota, and graduated from Velva high school in 1938. She attended Concordia College and Minot Business Institute. She was a legal secretary for firms in Bismarck, North Dakota and Casper, Wyoming before serving in the Women’s Army Corps in 1944 and 1945 where she was attached to the Air Transport Command at Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida. She was the Credit Manager for Taube’s Store for Women in Minot, North Dakota and Secretary and Administrative Assistant to Dr. Fred S. Hultz, President of North Dakota Agricultural College from 1949 to 1952, and later was legal secretary with firms in Edina, Minnesota and Mission, Kansas. She was employed by the North Dakota Broadcasting Company from 1957 to 1966 and served in many capacities at KXJB-TV and was station manager of KXAB-TV, Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1958. She was a vice president of North Dakota Broadcasting and Community Development Company. Connie was an active member and officer of many organizations including the Johnson County, Kansas Civic Planning Council, League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Soroptomist, YWCA, Desert Chapter of Childhelp, USA, Palm Springs Pathfinders Club and Republican Woman’s Clubs. She was named in the fifth edition of Who’s Who of American Woman. She married John W. Boler July 2, 1966 and they lived in rural Fargo until they retired to Palm Springs, California in 1974. They enjoyed traveling in Europe, North Africa, the Caribbean, the Orient and fishing in Canada, Minnesota, Jamaica and the Gulf of Mexico. They spent summers at their lake homes in Walker and Bemidji, Minnesota. John Boler died in Palm Desert, California in 1994. She moved to Bismarck in 2005. Connie enjoyed golf, bridge, needlework and was an avid reader. She is survived by two brothers, David Myrna Blackstead of Bismarck and Howard Kathy Blackstead of Granger, Indiana, two nieces, Stacy Blackstead of Bismarck and Alexis Blackstead of Denver, Co.
