Delores "Laurie" Jane McCormack

Delores "Laurie" Jane Kuntz McCormack died peacefully from complications of scleroderma on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was surrounded by her loving family, who will honor her memory as a giving mother, a masterful baker, a consummate saleswoman, and a lover of animals, especially cats. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, in Bismarck, with Rev. Marv Mutzenberger officiating, followed by a private inurnment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. There will be a memorial Mass for her at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at a later date. A true daughter of the Great Plains, Laurie was born on April 22, 1945, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Joseph Jacob and Magdalena Wolf Kuntz, Red River Valley farmers who predeceased her. She was the youngest of 11 children. Her brothers Leopold, Bernard Thomas, and John Allen Kuntz died in infancy. Brothers Cletus, George Allen, Joseph Jack Kuntz, and sister Mary Lou Kuntz Waters predeceased her. Laurie graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended the University of North Dakota, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and worked toward a home economics degree. She dedicated herself to raising her five children and established herself as a respected sales and customer service associate, respectively, at Earth Pantry and Cedric Theel in Bismarck. Laurie is survived by her sisters, Agatha Miller of Camarillo, California; Rosalie Anderson and Virginia Bernice Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her children, Shannon Kathleen McCormack of Annapolis, Maryland; Heather Ann McCormack of Brooklyn, New York; Ryan Benjamin McCormack of Bismarck; Erin Marie McCormack of Fargo; and Kelly Lynn McCormack of Bismarck; and her former husband, J. Michael McCormack of Bismarck. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Patricia Lavery of Alexandria, Virginia, and many, many adoring friends. Her family would like to thank the medical staff at Sanford Health, who showed them and their mother great empathy, sympathy, and kindness. Another special thanks to her friends, who supported her and played a large role in her care.
