Dennis Henley

Dennis Henley, 82, Tappen, North Dakota, died April 15, 2007, at his home with his family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Tappen with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial will be at Fisher Cemetery in Tappen. Visitation will start at 6:30 PM on Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church where an evening prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Dennis was born on November 22, 1924, in Westford Township, Kidder County, the son of Edward Henley and Mary Ellen Noonan Henley. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Westford Township. Dennis joined the U.S. Army on January 17, 1945, and was discharged on November 2, 1946. He trained at Ft. Snelling and served in Okinawa, then returned to farm with his mother and brother, James. He married Veronica Wald on November 8, 1950, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. They moved to a farm eight miles NE of Medina after his brother's death in August of 1961. Dennis and his family then moved to the family farm north of Tappen which was homesteaded in 1881. He continued to farm until his death. Dennis enjoyed his family and friends, his motorcycle, animals, and Coca-Cola. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, served as the church trustee, and township board for many years. Dennis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Veronica of Tappen; his daughters, Mary Jane Henley of Mylo, North Dakota, Linda Jack Reuer of Kremmling, Colorado, Deb Al Stanek of Bismarck; his sons, Donald of Tappen, and Michael Charlene of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Lee Briese wife, Penny of Edgeley, Bill Briese of Jamestown, Craig wife, Annie Reuer of Craig, Colorado, Amanda Reuer of Craig, Colorado, Sarah Henley of Bismarck, Brian Henley fiancee, Samantha Peterson of Mandan, Kevin Henley of Bismarck, Kimberly Stanek husband, Tom Simmer of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and Sabrina Stanek husband, Oguzhan Ozdemir of Atlanta, Georgia; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Currie of Santa Rosa, California. Special thanks to our helpers, Karen Anderson and Pamela Syverson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, James.
