Dolores "Lory" Olson

Dolores “Lory” Olson, 77, Steele, passed away on September 27, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Steele with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial services will be performed at Menoken Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel in Steele where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church. Lory was born on October 23, 1930, in Menoken, ND, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Hohimer Mills. She attended country school in McKenzie and received her high school diploma from St. Mary’s High School. After high school, she worked for a time at the State Capitol. She married Donald Olson at St. Hildegard’s Catholic Church in Menoken on May 21, 1951. They lived in San Diego, CA, while Don was in the Navy and then moved to Sterling, ND, after his discharge. They resided in Sterling until 1969, when they moved to Steele, ND. Lory worked as a bookkeeper at J.B. Hardware for several years until a fire destroyed the mini-mall building. She worked at Golden Manor Nursing Home until her retirement. Lory was always known for her laughter, kind deeds, and her ability to make people happy. Her joy in life was raising her children, and later on, enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many friends throughout the Steele and Sterling areas who she spent time with. She was a member of St. Francis Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, ND Cancer Society, and volunteered at Golden Manor. She is survived by her eight children: Chad and Deb Olson of Steele, Renee Loh of Bismarck, Sherry Olson of Bismarck, Sandra Kunz of New Salem, Carla and Randy Zeller of Bismarck, Todd Olson of Towner, Kevin and Melissa Olson of Mandan, and Taun and Maria Olson of Scottsdale, AZ; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Bev, Karen, Doris, Sharon, and Kay; and two brothers, Dennis and George. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-parents; one brother, David; and one sister, Diane.
