Dorothy Kuehn

Dorothy Kuehn, 79, Bismarck, completed her earthly journey on March 2, 2010, and is now at her heavenly destination. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Scott Bauman officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Dorothy Dolores Tietz was born August 18, 1930, in Beulah, ND, the daughter of Reinhold and Josephine Jacober Tietz. She attended grade school in Fessenden, ND, and graduated from New Leipzig High School. She received her registered nurses diploma from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Dorothy marred Duane A. Kuehn on March 18, 1951. They were blessed with three sons; David, Douglas, and Brian. They made Mandan, ND, their home from 1953 -1991, when they moved to Bismarck after retirement. Dorothy was employed as an RN for 32 years working at Bismarck Hospital, MedCenter One, Heartview Foundation and Golden Age Services. Her main focus in life was her Christian faith and her family. She was active in her church and bible study. Dorothy was a watercolorist and decorative painter. She belonged to the “Paintin’ Folk Tole Club” for many years. She served on the Mental Health Board and enjoyed being a docent at the Heritage Center. She was also active with the “Reach to Recovery” breast cancer program. Visiting the elderly and shut-ins was very important to her. She loved reading books, especially historical novels. Dorothy and Duane liked to travel. They wintered in Arizona for 14 years. Their 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated by touring the Holy Land and Athens, Greece. Dorothy was admired in the way she handled her years of illness. Her faith in Jesus, positive attitudes along with her sense of humor and cheery smile blessed her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Duane; her sons, Doug Julie and their children, Jessie and Josie; and Brian Diane and their children, Sarah and Dustin; her brother, Norm and his daughter, Nancy; her sisters, Marilyn Jerald Ryding and their children, Kim Keith Dahlen, Dana Jeff Martin, and Tad Heidi Ryding. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David; her sister-in-law, Nyla; and two nephews, Terry and Brad Tietz. Dorothy’s family appreciates the excellent medical care she received at MedCenter One under the direction of Dr. John Reynolds. The staff was very caring, professional, and compassionate. Thank you to the staff on the oncology and 7th floor chemotherapy department and the Bismarck Care Center. You made a difficult time more acceptable. The family is also grateful to the nursing staff the hospice care unit, they provided great assistance and support-thank you. Memorials may be given to Charity Lutheran Church or to Medcenter One Nursing Program.
