Doug C Schultz

Doug Schultz, 65, Bismarck, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away November 24, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. He completed his two year journey with ALS with faith and courage. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, December 1, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Doug was born June 11, 1949, in Bismarck, ND, to Clarence and Violet Schultz of Tappen. He attended Tappen Public School and graduated in 1967. After graduating from high school, he attended Valley City State University, graduating from there with a B.S. degree in Education. In 1972, he became a member of the North Dakota Highway Patrol and dedicatedly served the State of North Dakota for 28 years, retiring in 2001. He was stationed in Bowbells and Minot before being transferred to Bismarck when he was promoted to Sergeant in 1979. After his retirement from the patrol, he worked part-time at various jobs, the last one as a salesman at Feist Electronics. He retired from there in December 2013, due to his failing health. Doug married Chere Workman in Valley City on July 20, 1974. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters who were his pride and joy. He also was blessed to be "Grandpa Doug" to four precious grandchildren. Doug enjoyed motorcycle riding, horseback riding, photography, metal detecting, hunting, reading, and listening to music. Doug had a caring heart and sought to be of help to people in any way he could. Blessed to have shared his life are his wife of 40 years, Chere; his daughters, Angie Jesse Larson, Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Brock Rops, Lennox, SD, and Jessica Schultz, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Grant David and Reid Jesse Larson and Finley Violet and Sutton Douglas Rops. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Violet Schultz; his brother, Terrell Schultz; and his in-laws, Tom and Verna Workman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to McCabe United Methodist Church or the ALS Association, 333 N Washington Ave, Suite 105, Minneapolis, MN, 55401.
