Douglas "Doug" Ray Neibauer

Douglas "Doug" Ray Neibauer, 63, passed away unexpectedly on September 6, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan with Rev. Msgr. Chad Gion officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 – 9:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Douglas was born on June 25, 1950, to John and Elsie Neibauer in Mandan, ND. Doug went to elementary school in Huff, ND. Later his family moved to Almont, ND, where he went to high school. Doug worked on neighbors' farms until 1970 when he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. After he returned home from service in 1972, he met and married Vivian Rieker in 1973. From their union they had a daughter, Keeta, and son, Matthew. Doug started work with Northern Improvement in 1973 to 1977 putting in rural water lines throughout the central and eastern part of North Dakota and Iowa. He worked at Cloverdale from 1977 to 1981. He joined Burleigh Water Users Cooperative now South Central Regional Water District in 1981 as the maintenance man and worked his way up to district manager at present. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Burleigh County Rural Fire Department. Doug sat on the board of the ND Water Association and was a manager's representative and sat on the legislative committee for the ND Rural Water Executive Board. Doug's passion was that everyone would have good potable water to drink. He enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, watching NASCAR, hunting, antiquing, working on derby cars, and going to breakfast with his best buddy, Ernie. Doug was always known for his big heart and no matter who you were or what you needed he was there for you. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vivian Rieker Neibauer, Bismarck; daughter, Keeta Travis Knaup Bismarck; son, Matthew Kayla Neibauer, Bismarck; two grandsons, Blake and Beau Knaup; one granddaughter, Reagan Neibauer; his father, John Neibauer, Mandan; and his brothers and sisters, Ron Neibauer, Mandan, Richard Elaine Neibauer, Stanton, Gary Janice Neibauer, Bismarck, Marilyn Gary Bahr, Hopkinsville Kentucky, JoAnn Ron Hinson, Washburn, Donna Ernie Groth, Mandan, Sandy Kurt Prellwitz, Willow City, John Kris Neibauer, Lincoln, Terry Neibauer, Bismarck, Sherry Dale Helbling, Bismarck, and Lisa Shannon Kost, Bismarck. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Joan Klucker, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Mary Chuck Dally, The Villages, Florida; brothers-in-law, Larry Rachael Rieker, Mandan, and Ralph Rieker, Bismarck; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Neibauer; his grandparents, John and Ludmilla Charvat and Anton and Elizabeth Neibauer; niece, Tawnya Bahr; nephew, Scott Hinson; and two infant nephews, Richard Lee Neibauer and Samuel Helbling. Doug will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
