Edgar Anderson

Edgar Raymond Anderson, 80, Wilton, died on December 9, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton with Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be at Sunne Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 - 9:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Edgar was born on April 18, 1927, in Trygg Township in Burleigh County, the son of John E. and Hulda Strom Anderson. After his father died in 1936, Edgar's family moved to Bismarck. He attended Bismarck schools and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1944. Edgar and his twin brother, Edsel, enlisted in the US Navy, serving in the South Pacific. After his discharge in the summer of 1946, he attended Bismarck Junior College and graduated in 1948. Edgar married Marion Morris of Bismarck on December 2, 1961, at Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton. In 1950, Edgar became a substitute rural letter carrier in Wilton. He later became a regular rural letter carrier in Wilton, retiring in July of 1987, with 37 years of federal service. After retirement, he and Marion spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. He was a charter member and past president of the Wilton Lions Club and a charter member of the Wilton Park Board, serving on the board for 18 years. Edgar was instrumental in the development of the Wilton Recreational Complex. He was a 60 year member of the Wilton American Legion Post 163, holding many of the post offices. He was also a past district commander and past state department vice commander of North Dakota. The Legion Post 163 of Wilton presented Edgar with a life membership. He was a member of the McLean County Rural Letter Carriers Association, Bismarck VFW, a life member of Bismarck Elks Lodge 1199, and a member of Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton. During the Vietnam era, Edgar was appointed to the Burleigh County Selective Service Board. Edgar was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed taking his son and grandsons with him. He is survived by his wife, Marion of Wilton; his son, Scott of Wilton; his stepdaughters, Dana Wallace of Great Falls, Montana, and Darlene Bill Bitz of Wilton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Lundie of San Francisco, California, and Edna Orville Lundquist of Santa Cruz, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Floyd, and his twin brother, Edsel; and three sisters, Irene Anderson, Hazel Little, and Ethel Anderson, who died in infancy. In lieu of flowers, it was Edgar's wish that memorials be given to Sunne Lutheran Church in Wilton.
