Edmund Ed Mittleider

Edmund Mittleider, 79, Steele, completed his life's journey on March 28, 2014, and went home to meet his Savior. Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Steele, ND, with Rev. Steve Behrens officiating. Edmund's final resting place will be at Fisher Cemetery, Tappen, ND. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, March 31, at the Eastgate-Steele Memorial Chapel, in Steele. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Edmund was born December 23, 1934, in Tappen, ND, the eldest child of Theobald and Lundina Schlickenmayer Mittleider. Edmund grew up on the family farm south of Tappen. He attended country school and later graduated from Tappen High School. Following his graduation, Edmund served in the United States Active Army for two years and six years in the Army Reserve. On September 1, 1957, Edmund was united in marriage with Edythe Lang in Sterling, ND. This union was blessed with seven children. Edmund worked for various construction companies throughout his life, including his own excavation business, of which he was very proud. After short residences in Valley City, Tappen, and Robinson, Edmund and Edythe moved to Sykeston, ND, where they raised their children. Edmund was an active member of the Sykeston Fire Department, the American Legion Post, and in many community activities. In the fall of 2012, they moved to Steele, ND. Some of the most cherished times in Edmund's life was spending time with his grandchildren fishing and family picnics in the park. He was always excited when family came to visit and often called to inquire about their recent activities and events. Upon moving to Steele, Edmund spent many hours at his brother Mike's shop, organizing and tinkering around with projects. He is survived by his wife, Edythe; his seven children, Mary Mittleider, Mark Mittleider, Carol Rod Walth, Kevin DeLynn Mittleider, Gwen Rod Odstrcil, George Gaylene Mittleider, and LeRoy Christi Mittleider; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Daniel Mary Mittleider, Marvin Paulette Mittleider, Mike Karen Mittleider, and Christian Mittleider; one sister, Norma Reinhold Morlock; sister-in-law, Sharon Mittleider; brother-in-law, Melvin Peterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Godheilf and Edwin Mittleider; and sister, Bernice Peterson.
