Eileen Holwegner

Eileen Jean "Pinky" Holwegner, 77, Bismarck, died February 8, 2004 in a local hospital, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. There will be no visitation at the church. Eileen Hines was born December 7, 1926, at Bismarck to Edward John and Anna Marie Vapneck Hines. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1944. She was employed by A.W. Lucas and White Drug Store. On July 24, 1947, Eileen married Leslie Holwegner in Bismarck. Eileen and Les were married 51 years at the time of Les' death in 1998. Eileen was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed worshipping every Sunday. She enjoyed with her family a lake cabin at Lake Isabel, working crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, playing cards with family and friends and watching "Price is Right" and the "Wheel of Fortune". She enjoyed watching sports with her husband and sons. Eileen was a season ticket holder to the Dakota Wizards and made many family trips to Minneapolis to watch the Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite pastime though was bowling. She bowled in many different city bowling leagues and only recently was forced to give up this passion after almost 30 years. She especially cherished time spent with her family, especially the school functions and sporting events of her grandchildren. Eileen's family feels that one of her greatest accomplishments in life was helping her mother, Ann Hines, live independently at home until the time of her death in September of 2001, at the age of 96. Eileen was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends, especially her bowling friends. She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Dean and Michelle, Gene and Becky, and Eileen, all of Bismarck; her grandchildren. Melissa Shannon Gartner, Kara Nick Wolski, Bethany Holwegner, Kiel Holwegner, Dean "D.J." Holwegner, Jennifer Holwegner, all of Bismarck, and Kirsten Earling Kurtii of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Sofie; her sister, Dianne Blevins of Lynnwood, Washington; her brother and sister-in-law, John Rina Hines of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie 1998, her son, Michael 2002, her parents, and a baby brother, Duane.
