Elaine Shannon

Elaine Esther Felchle-Shannon, 81, went to her Lord savior Friday morning, March 7, 2014, at the Baptist Health Care Center where she resided in Bismarck, ND. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at McCabe United Methodist Church in Bismarck with Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be at Goodrich Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Elaine was born on November 29, 1932, in Goodrich, ND, where she was raised on the family farm. She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1951 and the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. In 1955 she married Paul R. Shannon of Bismarck, and together they raised their family of five children in Bismarck. Elaine worked nearly 40 years as a registered nurse for Bismarck Hospital and Medcenter One until her retirement. Elaine loved music and playing piano, having bought herself a new piano to enjoy in her retirement. She enjoyed living with flowers and pets, with one or both usually adorning her front porch to greet friends and visitors. The loves of her life were Jesus, her family, and her career and service in nursing. She put all three of these into her family…she was always there for us, no matter what. She was our foundation, our guiding light. Elaine especially devoted her life to raising her youngest child, Sally, providing a special place and love for her. She also especially loved and enjoyed her times with her grandchildren, always looking forward to their next visits. Elaine is survived by her children, Patrick Tamara, Oakland, CA, Paula Mann, Garrison, and Robert Leilani, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Patrick Shannon Jr., Sacramento, CA, Eva Shannon, Oakland, CA, Tristin Luke Dorschner, Mandan, Nathan Robyn Mann, Beulah, Allison Mann, Bismarck, Jessica Berg, Bismarck, Abby Schatz, Bismarck, Steven Shannon, Bismarck, and Brooks MeriCarol Shannon, Minneapolis; her great-grandchildren, Kali and Kyler, Sydney and Ian; and many friends and extended family. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Emma Felchle; her brothers, Walter, Kenneth and Willis Felchle; her son, Tom Shannon; and her daughter, Sally Ann Shannon. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Special Olympics North Dakota.
