Emil Doerr

Emil Doerr, 76, Bismarck, passed from the loving arms of his family into the welcoming arms of his Heavenly Father, on October 10, 2003, at a Bismarck care center. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:00 noon at Church of St. Mary with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 - 9 PM and Monday from 9 AM - 9 PM at Eastgate Funeral service where a KC rosary and vigil service will be held on Monday at 7:00 PM. Emil was born on September 17, 1927, in McClusky, North Dakota, the son of August and Rose Hausauer Doerr. He was raised and attended school in McClusky. His family then moved to Bismarck where he continued his education. Emil graduated from State School of Science in Wahpeton in 1948. He married Irene Werner in 1946 and they had six children, Cheryl, Colette, Douglas, Pamela, Danita, and Kathleen. He worked for John Larson Construction for forty-five years and during this time, he helped construct many local buildings such as St. Alexius Medical Center, MDU, North Dakota Heritage Center, as well as local banks, and churches. Emil worked in many towns including Devils Lake, Detroit Lakes, Dickinson, Fargo, Moorhead, Mott, Wahpeton, and Zeeland, and taught classes at Hughes Junior High and UTTC. Emil was a fifty-year member of the Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Bricklayers Union Local #2, Elks, and Church of St. Mary. He enjoyed many things in life including fishing and hunting, in which he passed on his expertise to his family, along with all he knew. He loved to spend time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his many friends and acquaintances. He will always be in our hearts and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Irene of Bismarck; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Cheryl and Don Hellman, Colette and Ken Wieland, Pamela Doerr, and Danita and Keith Hunke, all of Bismarck, and Kathleen and Harlen Stadel of St. Francis, Minnesota; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Rosalie Doerr of Bismarck; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Katherine Werner; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Mel and Bernice Doerr of Bismarck, Almer and Marlene Doerr of Eagan, Minnesota, Roy and Cheryl Doerr of Minot, and Harold and Jackie Doerr of Glendale, Arizona; four sisters and four brothers-in-law, Theresa and Robert Koeller of Bismarck, Leah and Larry Grinde of Buffalo, Minnesota, Dorothy and Fred Zander of Mandan, and Florence and Marlin Thor of Minot; two sisters-in-law, Myrle Doerr of Jamestown and Harriet Doerr of Underwood; and many nieces and nephews. Emil was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jacob, Adolf, and Reinhold; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Koeller and Larry Grinde.
