Esther Stanton

Esther M. Stanton, 93, Bismarck died August 18, 2003 at her home. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service where a rosary will be held at 7:00. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Esther Marie Stanton was born September 28, 1909, in Flaxton, ND, to William Joseph and Helen Julia Bley Galles. She was raised and educated in Flaxton, leaving there at age 16 for Whiting, Indiana. Esther married Robert E. Stanton, Sr., in Whiting on March 28, 1932. The couple moved to Casper, WY, where Robert worked for the Galles Dairy Farm, and the Standard Oil Refinery. In 1953, they moved to Mandan, ND, and Esther was employed as a nurse's aid in the Mandan Hospital. Esther was a member of Mandan Catholic churches, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, and was a long time Catholic Daughter. She was a volunteer in church activities and with the Boy and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers, playing cards, camping and fishing. She was a gifted seamstress and needlepoint expert. She and Robert were also members of the Elks Club. Esther was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lois and LeRoy Brow of Houston, TX, Patricia and Paul Menard of Encinitas, CA, and Toni Stanton of Mandan; five sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and June Stanton of Marysvale, Utah, Bob and Dottie Stanton of Minneapolis, MN, Don and Jackie Stanton of Mandan, Jack and Kathy Stanton of San Diego, CA, and Mike and Pat Stanton of Castle Rock, CO; 31 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Jack and Margaret Galles of Texas and Margie Galles of Wyoming; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Caroline and Bill Steidel and Eileen Ringold all of Arizona She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, five grandchildren, Carey and Theresa Brow, John D. Stanton, Brian Stanton, and Aaron Stanton, and four brothers, Harry, Don, Bill, and Jerome Galles. Memorials are preferred to the national or local Alzheimer's Association or MedCenter One Hospice.
