Floyd Weisser

Floyd E. Weisser, 84, Bismarck, died February 25, 2007, at his home ending a two year courageous battle with lung cancer. Services will be held at 1 PM Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Lindemann officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2-9 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Floyd was born to William J. and Emma K. Brosz Weisser on September 24, 1922, in Ashley, ND. Floyd was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. He attended Ashley High School, where he excelled at basketball, distinguishing himself as a high scoring forward. After graduating from Ashley High School in 1940, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp where he served one year. He then moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he was employed until he was drafted into the United States Army on February 19, 1943. He served most of his tour of duty in Europe with the 5th Armored Division under the command of General George Patton. Floyd was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds incurred during the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged September 14, 1945. Floyd married Malinda Raile on May 16, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND. They both say it was love at first sight. They had two children, Daryl Weisser and Mary Weisser Tappan. Floyd was employed by the Veterans Administration in Fargo, ND and later by the Veterans Administration regional office in Los Angeles. He retired in 1977 after 30 years. Floyd and Malinda retired in Roseburg, OR and built a house on the N. Umpqua River where he enjoyed catching steelhead salmon. Before and after retiring, Floyd and Malinda thrived on remodeling some 50 homes. Floyd learned carpentry by helping his grandfather in and around Ashley when he was a boy. Floyd is survived by his wife, Malinda, Bismarck, ND; his son, Daryl and his wife, Cheryl, of Mission Viejo, CA; his daughter, Mary Tappan, Petaluma, CA; his grandson, Robert Tappan and his wife, Sara, Baltimore, MD; brother, William and his wife, Lavern, Bismarck, ND; and sister, Elda Oleksiw, St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Inez Delzer and Shirley Martz; and his brother, Robert Weisser. Floyd was a devoted, kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A special thank you to the Medcenter One hospice team for their exceptional care and compassion.
