Fredrick White, Jr.

Fredrick White Jr., 74, Steele, joined his family and friends who have gone before him on June 21, 2007. Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial will be in the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 5:30 pm Monday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, and continue one hour prior to services at the church. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Fredrick Raymond White Jr. was born on September 4, 1932, the son of Fredrick and Mary White in Dawson, ND. He attended Dawson Public School. His first work was with the railroad in Dawson until he entered the Army in 1952. He served as a medic in Germany until 1954. He then moved to Hayward, CA, where he owned a full service station for many years. Fred drove for Yellow Freight Lines and got a taste of bartending which became his full-time occupation. Fred moved back to North Dakota in 1971 where he operated the Steele Corner Bar. Fred eventually became the manager of the Lone Steer Lounge where he met Susie Rohweder. Fred and Susie were married on August 31, 1979. They purchased the Lone Steer from Ray and Lorraine Rohweder in 1981. Over the years, Fred purchased the Depot and Freddie's in Napoleon. Fred's life was centered around mentoring his children, reminiscing with young and old friends and always trying to win a quick game of gin or pool. Fred enjoyed building his businesses and had the reputation of the funniest bartender in the business. Guests at the Lone Steer would stop just to see Fred. Fred was an avid gun collector and would proudly give a history of each gun to any admirer. He loved reading Louis LaMour, history or war stories. Fred found great satisfaction in helping others, from finding a part in his shop to pushing snow for elders. His greatest pleasure was having family and friends for dinner and taking care of Poofer dog. Fred?s house became a home for many. Fred was always honest, constant and strong and his memory will be cherished forever. He was a member of the LA Société Des 40 Hommes et 8 CheVauk, the Elks, a lifetime member of the American Legion in Dawson, and a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Fred is survived by his wife, Susie White; his children, Fredrick White III and his special friend, Stacy Moser, Holli and Chad Lang of Steele, ND, Judi Desper of Hayward, CA, Todd and Val Timm of Bismarck, ND, Vicki Timm of Menoken, ND, Kelly Timm of San Le Andro, CA, Donny Timm of Stockton, CA, and Michelle Harter of Lisbon, ND; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother, Tim White of Steele, ND; Jan Rose Jasper of Bismarck, ND; and Carole Waddell of Bismarck, ND. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joseph "Joe" and Eastburn "Buck"; and his sisters, Sharlow Neustel and Martha Thorsness.
