Galen Riedlinger

Galen Riedlinger, 73, Bismarck peacefully passed away December 27, 2014, at his home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Pastor Gary Heaton officiating. There will also be a gathering immediately after the services at Minerva's on State Street. Burial will be held following the gathering at Minerva's at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 3:30 PM. Family will be greeting visitors from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Galen was born September 14, 1941, in Emmons County, the son of Jake and Helen Schatz Riedlinger. He was raised and attended school in Hazelton, ND, and continued his education in the automotive field at Wahpeton. After school, he worked in Bismarck for 47 years at Hedahls, Carquest, and Eide Ford. He was also an active member of the Elks club. In July of 1962 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Betty Mickelson of Mandan, ND. They were married 52 wonderful years and were blessed with four children, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren, Brenda and Larry Lunder, Mandan; Tracy, Dale, Daltyn 17 and Bradyn 14 Knutson, Spring, TX; Brant Riedlinger, West St. Paul, MN; and Troy Riedlinger, who preceded him in death in 2009. Galen's immediate family was small but his extended and adopted family was vast. Gale made a point to spend time with all of them and treasured every moment. Galen A.K.A. Gale, Gus, Pappa G., Snacky didn't know a stranger. He loved people and they loved him. He always had a story or joke to share to make you smile. He was dedicated to his family, friends and neighbors and gave selflessly to help others. He had a passion for hunting, woodworking, westerns especially John Wayne, mowing his lawn and blowing the snow for the entire neighborhood. In his retirement years he also became quite the chef since he had a slight interest for food. Galen is also survived by his brother, Verlyn Martha, Albertville, AL; his sister, Jeanette Tschosik, Strasburg, ND; sister-in-law, Kathy Riedlinger; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James "Jim" and Gerald "Jerry"; brother-in-law, Anton "Tony" Tschosik; and sister-in-law, Marjorie "Marge" Riedlinger.
