Genevieve Gen Andre

Genevieve "Gen" Andre, 86, Bismarck, passed away on February 18, 2013, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, February 25, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Gen was born October 15, 1926 in Corning, Missouri, the daughter of Edgar and Martha Baete Rundle. She graduated from Craig High School in Craig, Missouri. She attended Maryville State Teachers College, Maryville, Missouri. Gen taught at a rural school near Craig. She attended Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, and the University of North Dakota. Following that, she taught high school English in Guernsey, Iowa, and at Adams, North Dakota. Gen met her husband, Allen Andre, while they both attended UND. They married in Hinsdale, Illinois, where her parents were living on January 5, 1950. Because of Allen's work they lived in Michigan, Minneapolis, MN, and Milwaukee, WI, as well as Lethbridge, Alberta, and Kitchner, Ontario, in Canada. They moved to Bismarck in August of 1962, where they have resided since that time. After moving to Bismarck Gen took courses in accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper for several different businesses. When someone in the office would make an accounting mistake or the books didn't balance, everyone turned to Gen to find and correct the mistake. She was always able to. Meanwhile, she kept taking courses into her fifties and sixties to advance her career. Her mother asked her if she would ever finish school. For over 22 years, until December of 2012, Gen was Office Manager and then President of Apollo Sales and Service, Inc. At the same time, she also operated Gen's Secretarial and Answering Services. Gen was a faithful member of McCabe United Methodist Church. On Sundays, after services, she would prepare a large meal for the family. She made sure her family received healthy balanced meals three times a day and yummy snacks in-between. She had a passion for studying the latest health discoveries. Gen is survived by her daughter, Arlene Andre Thomas Disselhorst, Bismarck; her son, Paul Teresa Andre, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Vanessa Trent Briltz, Regina, Saskatchewan, Jill Nicholas Cherubin, Ft. Collins, CO, Daniel, Bismarck, Matthew, Fargo, ND, and Jennifer, Bismarck; one aunt, Virginia Frerichs, Lincoln, NE, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gray and her staff in the oncology unit at Sanford Medcenter One for her care. They also give heartfelt thanks to the staff at Medcenter One Care Center off Collins and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
