George Neigum

George Neigum, 76, Bismarck, died June 25, 2007, at a Bismarck Hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. George was born on October 25, 1930, in Kintyre, ND, the son of Fred and Ann Bosch Neigum. He grew up and attended high school in Napoleon, ND. George graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, and attended banking school in Madison, WI. He served in the US Air Force from 1950 until 1954. George married Mary Harkness on September 12, 1981. In 1955, he began his forty-year career in Fargo, ND, with Dakota National Bank. In 1958, he moved to Bismarck where he was employed with Dakota National, Norwest, and he served as executive Vice-President and Public Relations Director for Bank Center First until he retired in 1995. He was the recipient of the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota Hall of Fame Award in 1992. He was a lifetime member of Elks, VFW, American Legion, Sertoma Club, Bismarck Jaycees, ND State President of Jaycee's and a past Burleigh County Commissioner. George enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and attending garage sales. George is survived by his wife, Mary of Bismarck, ND; his children, Kevin and Karla Neigum of Marion, IA, and their children, Johnathon, Tyler, and Brandon, and Karla Dorsey of Glendale, AZ, and her children, Danielle and Rachelle; his brothers, Elmer and Marilyn of Napoleon, ND, and Ben and Betty of Bismarck, ND; his sister, Irene Gleason of Tuscon, AZ; his ex-wife, Rita Neigum of Rugby, ND; his stepchildren, Colleen Ken Bakkegard of Wahpeton, ND, Kathy Nelson of Bismarck, ND, Maureen Gary Spangler of Boothwyn, PA, Colette Mike Chase of Hazen, ND, Karen Harkness of Scottsdale, AZ, and John Dorene Harkness of Siler City, NC; 18 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Clinton Gleason. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
