Gerald Brendel

Gerald Brendel, 56, Baldwin, died January 1, 2011, at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 7, 2011, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Gerald was born December 16, 1954, in Linton, ND, the son of Albert and Bernidine Vetch Brendel. He grew up on a family farm near Napoleon. At the age of six, the family moved to Linton where he started first grade. He also attended schools in Strasburg, Hague, and in 1965, the family moved to Wilton where he started the fifth grade. Gerald was a hard worker all of his life. While in high school, he worked for area farmers, Wallace Anderson, Gene Hilking, and Ted Adamyk. After high school, Gerald started out on his own. He worked on the highlines in the early 70s, and eventually would become superintendent of his own crew. He married Linda Mack in 1973. They worked in various states for the next 30-plus years. Because of health reasons, Gerald was forced to retire in 2007. Gerald and Linda had one daughter, Carla. He has two grandsons that he enjoyed being a grandpa to and spending as much time with them as possible. He enjoyed mechanical work on his collection of cars. He was always willing to help with different tasks. He'll be greatly missed by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandsons, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Linda, Baldwin; daughter, Carla Ryan Rose and two grandsons, Gerald and Adrian, all of Bismarck; seven sisters, Bernice John Maberry, Silvis, IL, Linda Dennis Wenniger, Hampton, IL, Marlend Brian Detlmer, Hellstate, IL, Sue Larry Marquiert, Baldwin, ND, Clementina Myron Basaraba, Wilton, ND, Sherry Buchholtz, Washburn, ND, and Pamela David Brendel, Bismarck, ND; seven brothers, David Cathy, Arnold Fran, Terry Lindona, Gary Chris, Larry Edie, Randy Missy, all from Bismarck, ND, and Donald, Mandan, ND; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Edith Mack, New Auburn, WI, sister-in-laws, Bonnie Glen Stowe, New Auburn, WI, and Mary Chris Burnett, Davenport, IA; and his ex-son-in-law, John Schliep. He was preceded in death by his son, Francis Brendel; his parents, Albert and Bernadine; three brothers, Bill, Robert, and Albert; two sisters, Carol and Mary; his father-in-law, Willard Mack; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and John Hyde; and ex-son-in-law, Theron Weinberger.
