Gerald Meier

Gerald "Jerry" Meier, 64, Minot, ND died at Village Medical Center in the Villages of Lady Lake, Florida, February 22, 2004. Services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 9 PM Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service and time of sharing will be held at 7 PM. Jerry was born August 22, 1939, at Goodrich, ND to Herman and Anna Hahn Meier. He graduated from Tuttle High School, after which he was employed by the ND Highway Department. In 1959 He married Diann Jenner and to this union two children were born, Lois and Mark. In 1966 Jerry started work for the North Dakota Game and Fish Dept., where he acted as District Game Warden in Parshall for 17 years and then in the Minot area for 19 years until his retirement in March 2003. During this time Jerry was active in Hunter Safety classes for kids, boating safety education and many other wildlife causes. In 1975 he won the Shikar Safari Club award for "Outstanding Warden of the Year". In 1990, 1994, & 2001 Jerry received "Case of the Year" for the ND Wildlife Assn. He was a competitive marksman with the pistol and won many top honors at pistol shooting events throughout ND, MT, and Canada. Jerry also acted as a mentor for several new wardens and was always eager to lend a hand. Favorite hobbies included walleye fishing, deer hunting, sausage making, raising cattle, making and selling woodcrafts, and of course, playing cards and especially pinochle. He was a member of Saron Lutheran Church in Minot and was remarried to MaryAnn Potts in 1988. Jerry is survived by his wife, MaryAnn, of Minot, ND; his daughter, Lois Goetz and her husband Mark of Richardton, ND; his son, Mark Meier and wife Lisa of Bismarck; stepson, Tom Potts of Cincinnati, OH; stepson, David Potts of Sauk Rapids, MN; one grandson; one granddaughter; two step granddaughters; five brothers, DeLane, Arlin, Dennis, and Randy Meier all of Bismarck and Roger Meier who resides in Sacramento, CA; and two sisters Carol Baillie of Bismarck and Sherrie Wolf of Nevada, IA. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters. Memorials are suggested to the North Dakota Game Wardens Scholarship Fund, 100 N. Bismarck Expressway, Bismarck, ND 58504.
