Gerald Rath

Gerald Gene Rath, 60, died March 12, 2005, at his home in Tuttle, North Dakota, after an eight-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at United Methodist Church in Tuttle with Rev. Perry Schnabel officiating. Burial will at Tuttle Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 AM - 9 PM at Eastgate Steele Chapel and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Gerald "Jerry" was born on September 6, 1944, at Steele, North Dakota, the son of Rueben and Albena Scherbenske Rath. He was raised and attended school in the Tuttle area, graduating from Tuttle High School in 1962. Jerry then attended Valley City State College. He married Shirley Schultz on October 12, 1968. They farmed east of Tuttle for thirty-six years. Jerry served on the following boards: Tuttle Farmers Elevator board, Tuttle Public School board, Township board, Tuttle Store board, and Tuttle United Methodist Church. He was a Tuttle United Methodist Layman and a Tuttle United Methodist youth leader for nineteen years. He was also recognized two times for Faithful Ministry by his local church, District Conference, and Dakotas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and Person in Mission presented by Tuttle United Methodist Women. Jerry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed basketball, baseball, and softball and played on the Tuttle softball team. Jerry loved attending all of the Tuttle High School sporting events He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Tuttle; one daughter and son- in- law, Michelle and Rick Schock of Bismarck, and one son Robert Rath of Tuttle; his grandchildren, Krysta, Emilee, Braydin, and Aliya; his special nephew, Todd Rath, his wife, Sharon, and their children, Kady and Lucas; special exchange student, Daniel Gutierrez, his wife, Maria, and their children, Marieta, Tamara, and Damian; his father, Rueben Rath of Minot; his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Karen Rath of Minot; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry loved and cared deeply for his mother-in-law and also brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his mother, Albena Rath and his father-in-law, Alvin Schultz.
