Harold Ganzer

Dr. Harold L. Harry Ganzer, 83, Bismarck, ND, died peacefully on February 14, 2015, at Saint Benedict's Nursing Home in Dickinson, ND, after a brief but courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Darrel Aleson officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 18, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Harold was born in Dickinson on December 18, 1931, to John and Rose Ganzer, the youngest of 5 siblings. Harold graduated Dickinson High School then entered the United States Marine Corps, where he was active duty during the Korean War serving stateside; missing being deployed oversees by only days. After his service, he returned to Dickinson, hence graduating from Dickinson State College. On October 11, 1954, he married Elizabeth Kaufman and went on to get his Doctorate from Marquette University in the Field of Dentistry. He purchased a dental practice in Bismarck and was beloved by his patients and staff for his kind sense of humor and chairside manner. Harold was an avid golfer, winning many country club championships, an expert marksman and trap shooter, a lifelong member of the Elks Club where he was a member of the band and an accomplished fisherman and hunter. During his retirement, he enjoyed winters in Arizona, highlighted by a surprise 80th birthday party which family celebrated with him arriving from all parts of the country. He is survived by daughter Lori Tim Yantzer; son Jim Ganzer; granddaughters Kalcey Schneider and boyfriend Kenneth Troy, Kaylen Casey Hausauer, and Samantha Reiter; grandson, Craig Yantzer; sister Muriel Frank Lewis, and sister-in-law Betty Ganzer. He was also blessed by great-granddaughters Tahleah and Taesha and great-grandson Andre, enjoying sitting and watching their antics with his unique commentary. He is also survived by nieces and nephews of whom he had strong relationships with, especially Keith, Ken and Dean Ganzer as well as his golf and shooting partners. He will be truly missed by many. Harold is preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Rose; brother John, best friend and brother Don, and sister Dorothy. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mapleview Memory Care and Saint Benedicts for their care and compassion as he neared the end of his journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Bismarck Elks Club or the Bismarck Mandan Alzheimer's Association. Rest in peace Fast Harry, you will forever be loved and never forgotten.
