Harold Williams

Harold S. Williams, 92, Bismarck, died peacefully at his home at Valley View Assisted Living on the morning of January 31, 2010, after an evening of celebration with his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Evangel Assembly of God in Bismarck with Rev. Wesley Glennen officiating. Spring burial will be at the Wing City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday starting at 5:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Harold was born with the assistance of a midwife on May 3, 1917, near Wing, ND, to Emory Ernest and Amelia Howe Williams. He was raised on a farm near Wing, and attended country school in Richmond Township, Wing High School, and spent his senior year in Deering, ND, where he graduated in 1935. He then joined the CCC’s Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at Bemidji, MN, from 1935 – 1936. In 1937, Harold returned to Wing to begin farming. Harold married Eva H. Trygg on June 1, 1938, at Jamestown, ND. He was a member of Regan Assembly of God Church. He served on the church board for many years and was the Sunday school treasurer for 20 years. Harold was instrumental in the organization of BEK Telephone Cooperative and the Farmers Union Oil Company of Wing, where he served on their boards and was the county secretary to the Burleigh County Farmers Union for 31 years. He was also a charter member of Wing’s Lions Club. Harold enjoyed writing poetry, bowling, traveling, and spending time with his family. He exemplified his values of patriotism and honesty in his day to day living. Harold was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Eva of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Maysil Malard of Bismarck and Penny Gary Pietila of White Bear Lake, MN; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Darrel Mary Lou Williams of Cottage Grove, OR, and Sanford Williams of Wing, ND; eleven grandchildren, Chris and Pat Williams, Lisa Darren Donahue, Kim Doug Rausch, Lowell Shannon Malard, Wendy John Wellmann, Laurie and Hannah Pietila, and Chad Kristi, Nate Gina, and Seth Alyssa Williams; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Douglas Griffin of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Harvey Malard; one brother, Rodney Betty Williams; and two sisters, Phyllis Griffin and Gladys Clarence Odermann. Memorials may be designated to Regan Assembly of God Church or to a one-time scholarship being set up for a Wing High School Senior who will be pursuing a career in agriculture.
