Helen Hertz

Helen Hertz, 59, Bismarck, died August 25, 2004, at her home after a 20-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 30, at Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck with Msgr. Val Gross and Fr. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be held from 1 pm - 9 pm on Sunday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Avenue, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 pm. Helen was born on August 18, 1945, in Napoleon, North Dakota, the daughter of George and Francis Schwartzenberger Gross. She was raised on the family farm near Napoleon, North Dakota, and graduated from Linton High School in 1963. Helen then moved to Bismarck where she met Don Hertz, and they were married on August 7, 1965. Helen devoted her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She always had a warm smile and a loving hug. A big part of Helen's life was her home daycare, where she touched many lives. Through her long battle with cancer, Helen lived a positive life and helped others in similar experiences. She appreciated all of the care from the doctors, nurses, and others who assisted her in dealing with her cancer. Helen's faith and love for Christ was everlasting and it is what sustained her through two decades of fighting cancer. Her faith is an example for all of us. She also had many special friends that were important in her life. Helen was deeply loved and always will be. She will remain an angel in our lives. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Don of Bismarck; her three children, Wayne Teri Hertz of San Clemente, California, Rick Ronda Hertz of Bismarck, and Jane Matt Link of Bismarck; her five grandchildren, Molly and Matthew Hertz of San Clemente, Joey and Macey Hertz of Bismarck, and Sam Link of Bismarck; three brothers, Joe Mary Ann Gross, Msgr. Val Gross, and George Elaine Gross; five sisters, Mary John Vetter, Frances Clarence Lindeman, Veronica Wilfred Masset, Lucille Terry Scherr, and Donna Hoffman; one brother-in-law, Edwin Ternes; one sister-in-law, Christine Gross; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Francis Gross; her brother, Clemens Gross; and her sister, Barbara Ternes.
