Irene Grosz

Irene Rieger Grosz went to be with her Lord on June 5, 2008, while at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2008, at First Evangelical Free Church, 205 43rd Ave N.E., Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Terry Kern and Rev. Bob Nordvall officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Irene Grosz was born on November 19, 1924, in New Leipzig, ND, to William and Katherina Hochhalter Rieger. She was raised and educated in the rural farm community and graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1943. She followed her servant's heart and graduated from Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Upon graduation, she was employed by Bismarck Hospital and later worked at Elgin Hospital and Jamestown Hospital. She met her husband, Roland Grosz, at her sister Catherine?s wedding in 1947 and they were married a year later on April 3, 1948. In the fall of 1949, they moved to Bismarck and Irene was again employed at Bismarck Hospital. Their son, Paul, was born in 1950 and was followed by daughter, Carol, in 1955. Her husband, Roland, went to his reward on October 14, 1988. Irene continued living in Bismarck until her death. Irene was blessed by her family and was active in church serving in Sunday School and youth ministry, Women?s Missionary Society, White Cross, and the church nursery. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Her greatest desire was to live her life for Jesus. She is survived by two children, Paul Suzi Grosz and Carol Kevin Bjork, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Krista Jeremy Schmidt of Littleton, CO, Scott Grosz, Lacee Matt Anderson, and Callie Bjork, all of Minneapolis; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Cody, and Emily Schmidt of Littleton, CO, and Laila Anderson of Minneapolis. She is also survived by three sisters, Catherine Herman Grosz of Bismarck, Adeline Hugh Collins of Spokane, WA, and Doris Marvin Kautz, of Medford, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; her parents; one brother, Ervin Rieger; and three sisters, Anne Mueller, Ella Vetter, and Minnie Lund. The family requests memorials be sent to First Evangelical Free Church or KNDR.
