Jane K. Smith, 89, Bismarck, died July 27, 2012, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel with Rev. Rebecca Aardahl officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery. Jane Kathryn Kershaw Smith was born on May 8, 1923, at Hazelton, ND, the daughter of David Hood Kershaw and Martha Wohl Kershaw. She was baptized at Linton, ND, on May 11, 1924. She was confirmed at the Lutheran church in Hazelton on June 18, 1939. Jane was raised in the Menoken-Glencoe area on her parents' farm. She attended Telfer School for eight years. Jane raised her six children in Menoken, ND. She moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1966. Over the years, Jane worked as a housekeeper at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck Hospital, and the Kirkwood Motor Inn. She worked for Home Health Care at St. Alexius, as a companion to the sick and elderly for a number of years. Jane loved children and was readily available to babysit for family and friends. She always had time for her children and grandchildren. Her sense of humor and ability to play drew children to her side. She enjoyed working on puzzles of all kinds as well as playing cards. Jane was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She resided at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the last three years. Suffering with Alzheimer's disease, her family was lucky in that she never lost the ability to remember who they were, as well as her wonderful sense of humor. Jane is survived by four children, Lyola Jerry Farnsworth of Osburn, ID, Marlys Ward of Bismarck, Bobbie Bernice McCurdy of Gilbert, AZ, and Marlin Gloria McCurdy of Couer d'Alene, ID; one daughter-in-law, Edna Hauser of Coulee Dam, WA; one sister, Luella Anderson of Bismarck; three sisters-in-law, Maureen Kershaw of Menoken, ND, Aune Kershaw of Bismarck, and JoAnn Kershaw of Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Jane Carol Walrath, Johnathan Campbell, Lori Hauser, Janet Adams, Kimberly McCurdy Curl, David McCurdy, Kathy Miller, and Kristi Hening; numerous great-grandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren. A special mention of Jane's great-granddaughter, Britany Walrath-Kwasniewski Kirk of Bismarck and their two children, David and Teagan. The visits of children made Jane very happy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and David Kershaw; four brothers, Raymond, Dalles, Delbert, and Albert Kershaw; two sons, David and Darvin Hauser; one granddaughter, Marla Kathryn Farnsworth; and one son-in-law, David Ward. A special thank you to her granddaughter, Jane Carol Walrath who made her grandmother's last three years of life full of laughs, dignity, and respect. Her kindness and love for her Grandma Jane will never be forgotten. The family requests memorials to be given to St. Alexius Hospice. Our "Super Heros".
