Jeannette Jan Meidinger

Jeannette "Jan" Meidinger, 75, passed away at her winter residence in Mesa, AZ, on March 1, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Jeannette was born on August 16, 1939, in Dawson, ND, the daughter of Robert F. and Annette Hatfield Schmidt. She was the youngest child born to a family of eleven children. She was raised on a farm near Dawson, ND, where she attended school and graduated in 1958. Jeanette married Albert Meidinger in 1959. They lived in Jamestown, ND, for two years and moved to Benedict, ND, in 1961, and then to Max, ND, in 1963. In 1975, they moved to Bismarck. After her husband's retirement, they enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. Jeannette worked beside her husband as they owned and operated Al's Standard Service in Max from 1963 – 1975. They later owned and operated Arrowhead Amoco in Bismarck from 1976 – 1999. Jan, as many called her, also worked various jobs including teacher's aide at Max Public School in addition to many retail jobs. Jan loved to be with people and valued her relationships with them. Jan was a gifted writer and poet. Her poem "My World" won the Golden Poet Award and was published in "Great Poets of the Western World Volume #2. Her poem "His Spirit Moves" received the Iliad Literary Award and was published in the book "Images". Jeannette was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck. She enjoyed attending women's Bible study and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed reading, music, singing, traveling, camping, playing cards, and living in Arizona during the winters. Jeannette will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Albert; her daughter, Amy Singer of Bismarck, and her children, Steven Julia and their daughter, Abigail, Bryan, Trevor, and Aaron; her daughter, Julie Richard Johnson of Bellingham, WA, and their children, Justine and William; her son, Matt Renee Meidinger of Mandan and their children, Amanda Metzger, Jennifer, and Joshua; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Catherine Lang of Bismarck, Ruth Eichele of Napoleon, ND, and Marilyn Wesley Naish of St. Helens, OR; one brother and sister-in-law, Ellis Camille Schmidt of Dawson, ND; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, James Albert; her sisters, Geneva Schultz and Evelyn Zimmerman; four brothers, Walter, Lewis, Arne, and Robert E. Schmidt; her grandson, Scott Meidinger; and her son-in-law, Darryl Singer. In lieu of flower, memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck or Elk's Camp Grassick in Dawson, ND.
