Joan Sieler

Joan Elaine Sieler, 53, Bismarck, died September 30, 2009, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Dave Swonger officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Joan was born on January 25, 1956, in Hazen, ND, the daughter of Al and Elaine Stickney Wittmaier. The family lived in Beulah before moving to Bismarck when Joan was four years old. She attended Bismarck schools, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1974. Joan graduated from Minot State College, where she received her teaching degree. Joan married Steve Sieler on November 26, 1977, in Bismarck. Joan and Steve lived in a number of communities in North Dakota due to Steve’s work; during which time Joan enjoyed teaching in the Bottineau, Kramer, and Wishek communities. They moved to Bismarck in 1992. Joan experienced teaching in a one-room school house at Manning School District for seven years with grades K-8 and she loved it. She continued teaching at St. Mary’s Grade School for the past eight years and thoroughly enjoyed being at the school. For Joan, it was always about the kids and wherever she taught, her love for the children would show. She also loved to sew and shared her talents working countless hours for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Joan is survived by her husband, Steve, Bismarck; her son, Tim, Minneapolis, MN; her daughter, Emily Kyle Zahn, Bismarck; her son, Jason, Bismarck; her precious granddaughters, Ethnie and Kinzie Zahn; her parents, Al and Elaine Wittmaier, Bismarck; her brother, James, Beulah, ND; her sister, Patti Jim Ertresvaag, Bismarck; her father-in-law, Ron Ileen Sieler, Menoken; her sister-in-law, Sharon Bob, Bismarck; and her niece and nephews, Marie, Michael, David, and Mark. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Daniel and Matthew. Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Grade School, 807 E Thayer Ave, Bismarck, ND, 58501-4466. Joan’s family wishes to thank all of their family and friends for their love and support during Joan’s illness and now at this time of her passing.
