JoAnn Oster

JoAnn Lorraine Oster, age 72, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend went home to her heavenly father on December 29, 2006. Services will be held Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 Avenue C East, Bismarck, ND, with Pastor Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon to 9:00 PM Wednesday at the Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Bismarck. The prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. JoAnn was born on August 5, 1934, in DeLamere, North Dakota to Samual and Ebba Nelson Kinken. She graduated from DeLamere High School in May 1952 and moved to Bismarck where she worked for St. Alexius Hospital, Wilton School District, and eventually retired after working many years for the State of North Dakota. On July 11, 1954, she married Harry Oster. JoAnn and Harry had five children: Diana Kevin Schneider, New Mexico; Susan Schoener, New Jersey; Joan Neubauer, Minnesota; Sandra Michael Kummer, Indiana, and Daniel Oster Brenda Neubauer, Bismarck. JoAnn was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and served two years as an auxiliary president for the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1326. Her favorite activities were spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing, and playing cards and bingo. JoAnn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Dannette, Nicole, and April Schneider, Carrie and Katie Hopfauf, Jessica and Evan Levinson, Thomas and Sarah Kummer, and Jake and Sam Neubauer and eleven great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending their school and sport activities and teaching tricks to her children's family pets, especially Sadie. Also surviving JoAnn are her immediate family; Beatrice Grow Orville, Minnesota; Clara Mae Fuss LeRoy, Fargo; Donna Miller, Huff; Earl Kinken Betty, Iowa; and Herb Kinken, Minnesota; and in-laws, Clayton and Lorraine Maw, Steele; Art and Jeanette Oster, Bismarck; Leo and Deloris Dockter, Bismarck; Glen and Shirley Schulz, Bismarck; Vernon and Linda Oster, Hebron; and Randy and Deb Diede, Bismarck; and any many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant son; her infant granddaughter, Susan Kummer; her parents; and her younger sister, Dorothy. She will be deeply missed by all the people whose lives she has touched. All memorials will be donated to Faith Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign War.
