Joe A. Senger

Joe A. Senger, 82, Bismarck, ND, died at his home on May 10, 2009. Services will be held at 11:30 am Thursday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with Rev. Edwin Wehner officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary service will be held at 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Joe was born on February 2, 1927, in Hague, ND, the son of Anton and Katherine Jung Senger. He grew-up in the Hague area where he received his education. Joe served as a MP in the US Army and after being discharged in 1946, Joe married Thekla Reinbold on October 6, 1948. They farmed in Hague, until moving to Bismarck in 1953. Joe worked at the Amoco Refinery in Mandan for over 30 years before retiring. Along with raising his large family of ten children, Joe owned and operated the Red Carpet Lounge in Bismarck, getting the city commissioners to finally allow dancing in Bismarck bars. Joe was a devout member of St. Anne’s Church in Bismarck. He enjoyed watching sports and westerns, playing cards, gardening, fishing, an occasional cigar, listening and dancing to polka music, and especially loved spending time with family and friends. Joe was a proud member of the Moose, VFW, and Eagles Clubs. Joe is survived by his four daughters and three sons-in-law, Gladys Miller, Tennessee, Susan and Mike Leingang, Bismarck, Diane and Brad Ruff, Bakersfield, CA, and Yvonne and David Becker, Newnan, GA; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Tony Senger, Santa Ana, CA, Ron and Mary Senger, Davenport, IA, Pat and Nancy Senger, Bismarck, Bill Senger, Bismarck, and Tim and Cynthia Senger, Boston, MA; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Leona Werlinger, Irene and Al Wagner, Barbara and Jack Glatt, and Alice Schafer; and two brothers, Jerome and Ann Senger, and Paul and Helen Senger. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 49 years, Thekla; his daughter, Pam; his parents; and his brother, Alois Senger. The Senger family would like to thank all of Joe’s many loyal friends and the staff at the Medcenter One Dialysis Clinic for the loving care they gave our father. Memorials may be given to the Pam’s House Abused Adult Resource Center.
