Joe Neuenschwander

Joe Neuenschwander, 74, Bismarck, died unexpectedly at home on February 6, 2012. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, February 10, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Joe was born in Fessenden, ND, on October 20, 1937, to Roger and Rosalie Fagen Neuenschwander. He attended school in Fessenden where he graduated in 1955. On August 30, 1959, he married Janice Stafford of Harvey, ND. He attended NDSU in Fargo earning a BS degree in Industrial Engineering in 1963. After graduating from NDSU, Joe began his professional career with the North Dakota State Highway Department in Grand Forks, North Dakota, then transferred to Bismarck in 1968 where he was employed for 43 years until he retired in 2003. After retiring, he also worked part-time for FEMA. Joe was an avid volunteer where he spent many years involved in softball, as manager of Provident Life Mens Class AA teams, president of Bismarck Softball Association, and ND assistant state softball commissioner. He volunteered at many softball tournaments, including the very first McQuade tournament. His latest involvement was with Lure' Em for Life, an organization of the ND Game and Fish Dept., for educating children and adults on fishing and aquatic related activities. Joe's interests were spending time with family, fishing, hunting, bowling, and puzzles. He was always willing to help out wherever he could, especially when it involved children. Joe knew many people, and would start a conversation with a stranger that would lead to a common connection somewhere. Joe is survived by his wife Janice of 52 years; daughters, Kelli Joe Clifton of Minnewaukan, ND, Connie Doug Griffin of Mandan, ND; and son, Mark of Harvey; grandchildren, Kyle and Katie Clifton, Mikaela Neuenschwander, Riley Griffin; step-grandson, Anthony Kamstra; great-granddaughter, Denali Neuenschwander; sister, Nedra Eckroth of Mandan; brother, Dr. Allen Roger Neuenschwander of Boise, Idaho; and several nephews, nieces and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan.
