John Milton Brady

John Milton "Milt" Brady, 88, Bismarck, passed away from this life into the arms of our loving Father on January 12, 2013, after an extended illness at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. He passed away in the company of his dedicated wife, Betty, and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck, with Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at the ND Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. John was born on August 11, 1924, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Harold and Helen Hoyt Brady. The family moved to Carrington, ND, where John was raised and educated, graduating from Carrington High School in 1942. He entered the US Army Air Force on April 13, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN, and attended basic training in Amarillo, TX, and served in the administrative services division at various bases in the United States and Kingston, Jamaica. After completing his military service as staff sergeant, he was honorably discharged on October 29, 1945. Following his discharge, John dedicated 46 years to working in the grocery business, first with the Red Owl stores, including managing the Bismarck Red Owl stores, until 1969. In 1970, he started with Dan's Supermarket, Inc., working at Gateway and Kirkwood Super Valu stores until his retirement in 1989. John married the love of his life, Betty Wolf, on November 10, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck where they continued to live and raise their family. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served as post commander of the Bismarck Post #1326 in 1991 – 1992 and had the honor of being "All-American Commander". He was also a member of the American Legion and Amvets. John and Betty were also members of Church of St. Anne. John loved to surround himself with his family and many special friends, including being actively involved in the activities of the VFW Club. He had a love of storytelling and had a great sense of humor. Faith, family, and friends were of the utmost importance to him in his life. He also enjoyed all kinds of music and sports, and was an avid reader. John will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty of Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Bernie Brady of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen of St. Paul, MN, and Laurie Ann and Tim Wolf of Bismarck; two brothers and one sister, Kenneth "Kenny" Brady of Carrington, ND, Greg Marge Brady of Bismarck, ND, and Annette Dennis Johnson of Hinsdale, MT; five grandchildren, Chrystie Kyle Kleinknecht, Brandon Shanna Brady, and Brady fiancée Jamie Kalm, Shane, and Tanner Wolf; four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlyn, Cambree, and Sophia; as well as many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wallace "Wally", Lawrence, and Dennis MIA, Korea; and two sisters, Veronica Buchl and Patty Funk.
