John Duane Ewine

John Duane Ewine passed from this life on February 14, 2015, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, from complications due to Parkinson's disease. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 17, at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, February 16, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. John was born on May 17, 1934 to Jack and Sophie Waltos Ewine. He was raised north of Wilton on a farm. He attended a one room school house through eighth grade and graduated from Wilton High School. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Oklahoma to custom combine with his father, uncle and cousins. He drove a truck loaded with one of the combines at the age of 17 through three states. On June 26, 1954, he married Betty Sabot. They farmed with his family until moving to Bismarck in 1956. They were blessed with five children. John worked for 33 years for Tesoro formerly known as Standard Oil refinery. Together with his wife Betty they purchased a hobby farm where they raised cattle and eventually built a new home. He lost his wife Betty too soon in 1987. John loved to dance and met his second wife Alice Delzer at a singles dance in Steele. He married her on July 17, 1999. John loved to go to the casino. John enjoyed finding treasure in another man's junk and frequented auction sales. He also enjoyed collecting scale model farm toys and managed to collect a vast array. He could look at a tractor and tell you the year and model. John is survived by his wife, Alice; his five children, Sheri Paul Ocampo, Renee Ewine Waylon Hedegaard, Michelle Dan Gardiner, Jackie Dave Andahl, and John Jamine Ewine; his eight step-children, Sandra, Duane, Cynthia, Debra, Denise, Jeffrey, Brian, and Clayton; his 14 grandchildren, Paul Braun, Matt Ocampo, Julie Chad Leno, Ryan Ocampo, Reilly Hedegaard, Ross Jahna Gardiner, Becky Jesse Vossler, Luke Amanda Gardiner, J.P. Codi Feland, Jon Gardiner, Stephanie Mees Tyler Bouche, Tyler Mees, Nathan Ewine, and Kaitlyn Ewine; his five-great-grandchildren, Ethan, Brynnlee, Hannah, Lynnlee, and Bria. John is also survived by his sister, Beverly; and his brother, Dennis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Jack and Sophie; and his sister, Audrey.
