Joseph E Farrell Jr

Joseph E. "Joe" Farrell, Jr., 86, passed away January 6, 2013, with several members of his family by his side, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 13, at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Ray Baker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Joe was born to Joseph E. Farrell, Sr. and Clarabell Robinson Farrell on December 3, 1926, in Billings, MT. He attended school in Billings, graduating from Billings Senior High. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving two years in the Pacific Theatre. He returned to Montana to continue his education at the University of Montana at Missoula, MT, and worked as a smoke-jumper for the US Forest Service during the summers. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 and served one year in the Korean Conflict. Upon return to Montana in 1951, Joe started work with Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. He worked for MDU at several positions in Montana, Wyoming, and Bismarck, ND, until his retirement in 1986. After retirement from MDU, Joe was active in Bismarck-Mandan Homebuilders Association and the Bismarck Apartment Association. Joe married Darlene Moon on February 15, 1953, in Laurel, MT. Joe and Darlene had three children, Kathleen Kay, Daniel J. and Debra D. Joe was active in the Bismarck Elks, El Zagel Chapter of the Shriners, and McCabe United Methodist Church Foundation. He was a member of McCabe United Methodist Church. Joe is survived by his wife, Darlene, Bismarck; his children, Katie Glen Housefield, Sagamore, MA, Daniel Dorothy Farrell, Bismarck, and Debra Grinaker, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Eric L. Fossen, Jolene Mark McMorran, Jacqueline D. Farrell, James J. Farrell, and Jessica A. Farrell. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Brooke Fossen, Grace McCormick, Joseph McCormick, and Benjamin Gero; his niece, Barbara Sweet, Queensbury, NY; his nephews, Bill Donna Linger, Molt, MT, Jim Terri Linger, Billings, MT, Richard Ryan, NY, and Bill Ryan, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Clara R. Farrell; his sister and her husband, Beth William Ryan; father-in-law, Harold "Bill Moon; mother-in-law, Josephine Moon Biffle; his sister-in-law, Audrey Linger; his brother-in-law, Roy Linger; and his niece, Jeanne Linger. Memorials may be given to the Shriners Children Hospital or McCabe United Methodist Church.
