Leah Reuer

Leah Reuer died peacefully with family gathered around her on Friday June, 15, 2012, at the Baptist Home in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tappen with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband Otto Reuer at Fisher Cemetery in Tappen, ND. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at the Eastgate Funeral Chapel in Steele, ND, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Leah Hagel was born September 7, 1927 to Adolf and Kathrina Albright Hagel in Tappen, ND. On July 23, 1950, she married Otto Reuer at her parents' farm in Tappen. Leah and Otto built their home south of Tappen where they farmed and raised their ten children. Leah was known for her sense of humor and always ready with a story. She was an avid reader and loved music and dancing. Her and Otto attended many dances over the years and often danced at home. Leah was a renowned seamstress and cook. She was employed as a cook at different locations, including for Tappen School where her baked treats were favorites of students and staff, especially her caramel rolls. Family was especially important to Leah, and her Tappen house was rarely empty on weekends and holidays; full of family and friends and at least one game of Rummy, Leah's favorite card game she taught to all of her grandchildren. "There's always room for one more at the table," was Leah's motto. Leah is survived by her children, Jack Linda, Walden, CO, Randy Sharlene Jamestown, ND, Richard Peggy Steele, ND, Linda Bill Pape, Bismarck, ND, Carol Joey Brunner, Napoleon, ND, David Sue Foreman, ND, Melvin Berdette, Maple Grove, MN, Ronald Vickie Jamestown, ND, and Ted and Arnold, Tappen, ND; her grandchildren, Craig and Mandy Reuer, Wendy Reuer, Chris and Josh Pape, Billy and Leann Brunner, Marsha Rauda, Missy Reuer, Sara and DJ Reuer, Hanna Reuer, Kaitlin and Anna Reuer; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Emma Kramlich; and her brother, Ferdinand Hagel. Leah is preceded in death by her husband, Otto; her parents, Adolf and Kathrina Hagel; her brothers, Edwin, Walter, David, Julius, Hilbert, and Irvin Hagel; and her sisters, Ida Malsam and Tena Etten.
