Linda Schick

Linda Schick, 92, Bismarck, formerly of Pettibone, ND, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 27, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pettibone, with Rev. Thomas R. Marcis, Jr. officiating. Burial will be held in the spring. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, December 26, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Linda was born to Christ and Olga Retzer Otto on June 19, 1921, in Jordan, MT, and was the third oldest of 15 children. At age three, Linda and her family moved to a farmstead 12 miles north of Robinson, ND. There Linda attended country grade school. She worked countlessly on the family farm and also worked for neighbors in the area. Linda married William "Bill" Schick on June 20, 1940, and celebrated 57 years of marriage. Bill and Linda farmed in Petersville Township until retiring in 1975. In 1995, they moved to Pettibone. Bill passed away in 1997. Linda continued to live in Pettibone until 2003, when she moved to Bismarck. Because of health reasons, she spent the last four years at Maple View Memory Care, Bismarck. Linda was a German gal with many specialties. She was an avid singer in church choir, an active member in LWML, and very involved with the Senior Center in Pettibone. Family values were important to Linda and those family traditions were passed on to her children and grandchildren. She had the largest and most productive garden in her whole neighborhood that produced shelves of canned goods. No one could make pickles like Linda could. Her kitchen was her favorite room where countless hours were spent providing tasty homemade meals for family gatherings. Fresh homemade bread and buns were always setting on the table. On many occasions she would distribute more food on certain plates because she felt her family needed to eat more. Dessert was always setting in the background after each meal. She created awesome desserts, her specialty was apple pie and kuchen loaded with custard. She enjoyed card games, especially pinochle, one game which she didn't like to lose. At times, she playfully cheated until she got caught or maybe she didn't always get caught. Family socials were always a fun loving time where we laughed until we cried. Christmas was her favorite holiday and family get together. Linda is survived by her two sons, Arnold Carol, Ada, MN, and Marlin Della, Bismarck; two sisters, Leona Rodney Magneson, Carrington, ND, and Phyllis Heibert, New Port, WA; two brothers, Richard Margaret Otto, Bowdon, ND, and Robert Otto, Middleton, ID; seven grandchildren, Donavon Diana Schick, Mandan, Cory Angela Schick, Pensacola, FL, David Laura Schick, Byron, MN, Jeremy Kristi Schick, Phoenix, AZ, Angela Tom Hamkens, Bismarck, Melisa Jarod Rose Bartlett, S. Berwick, ME, and Jessica Schick special friend, Scott, Manchester, NH; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Luella Otto, Bismarck, and Sharon Otto, Arthur, ND; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; one infant son, Edward; brothers, Jake, Walter, Reuben, LeRoy, John; one sister, Lydia; two sets of twins; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-laws; and one great-grandson, Tucker. Linda's family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers at Mapleview and to the doctors and nurses at Sanford Health.
