Lloyd Olson

Lloyd K. Olson, 80, Bismarck, passed away on February 11, 2010, at the Baptist Home in Bismarck, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Avenue C, Bismarck, with Rev. Chris Alexander officiating. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the ND Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Lloyd Kenneth Olson, the son of Emil and Marie Selahn Olson, was born on November 12, 1929, in Regan. He was raised on a farm in the Wilton/Regan area with his three brothers. Lloyd attended Gyhlin Township School. After completion of his schooling, he helped on the family farm, where his love of farming grew. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 – 1952 where he excelled in marksmanship, receiving numerous awards. During his service in the Army, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, and Fort Smith, Arkansas. In December of 1951, Lloyd married Helen Roemmich at Fort Smith, Arkansas. Upon their return to North Dakota, they farmed and raised four daughters and two sons south of Regan. In 1958, he relocated his family to Bismarck where Lloyd worked for Atlas Ready Mix as a truck driver. He later went to work for Dakota Welding as a truck driver and warehouse employee. In the late 1970s, he left the work force and some years later entered retirement. During his retirement, he spent his time hunting, fishing, playing cards, and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Some of his most treasured moments in life include his yearly deer hunting trip with his sons and grandsons, camping with his family at the lake, and joking around with his grandchildren. Lloyd was a lifelong member of the VFW and Moose Lodge. He is survived by his children, Mary Lou McLellan of Fort Riley, Kansas, Karen Al Berger of Bismarck, Kenny Susan Olson of Billings, Montana, Nancy Olson of Bismarck, Sherry John Harwood of Bismarck, and John Kristin Olson of Bismarck; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Henry, Leonard, and Gerald Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Marie Olson; his granddaughters, Sheila and Tracy Kautzman; and his son-in-law, Gene McLellan.
