Lloyd Salter

Lloyd Salter, 79, Menoken North Dakota passed away February 11, 2008 at his ranch surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck where family will greet visitors from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Lloyd was born July 8, 1928, in Bismarck, the son of Richard A. and Mabel Funston Salter. He was raised on the family farm north of Menoken. Lloyd went to grade school at Menoken, graduated from Bismarck High and attended NDSU. On August 21, 1948, he married Lois Morford in Bismarck. They purchased his Uncle Jake's farm at Menoken in the 50s which was the start of the Salter Ranch where he continued to ranch/farm until the time of his death. He was a member of the Bismarck Elks, the American Quarter Horse Association, North Dakota Stockmen's Association, Simmental Association, Cowboy Hall of Fame, End of the Trail Saddle Club and served on the Menoken Township Board and the Irrigation Board.He dedicated his life to farming and ranching, his horses were the pride of his life. He had his own registered Simmental Bull Production sale for many years. Lloyd enjoyed playing Texas Hold'em Poker with the local ranchers. His grandchildren's visits brought a smile to his face especially when he could talk politics with Jimmy, sports with Heather, Justin, Jacob and Ryan, farming and ranching with Andy and Shawn and teasing Jessie about her dog George, who she referred to as his great-grandson. He very seldom missed his granddaughter Kaydee's rodeo competitions and enjoyed talking nursing with Crystal. Lloyd leaves Lois, his wife of 59 years; three daughters, Patricia Dave Ennen, Menoken, ND, Jan Bashus, Bismarck, ND and Connie Patrick Heaton, McKenzie, ND; son, Tim Terri Salter, Grand Island, NE; ten grandchildren, Heather Ennen, Nashville, TN, Andrew Kayla Ennen, Bismarck, ND, James T. Heather Bashus, Justin Bashus and Sara and Jessica Bashus and Mike all of Bismarck, ND, Shawn and Kaydee Heaton, McKenzie, ND , Jacob Salter, Grand Island, NE and Ryan and Crystal Nelson, Bismarck, ND; three great-grandchildren, Logan Ennen and Houston and Savannah Bashus all of Bismarck, ND. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy and one sister-in-law, Virginia. The family prefers that memorials would be given to the MS Society in honor of his daughter Connie, The Cowboy Hall of Fame or the Cancer Society.Our family would like to thank the awesome oncology nurses on the 7th floor of Medcenter One, Home Heath Care and Hospice of Medcenter One and the wonderful Visiting Angels for helping to make Lloyds last days as comfortable as possible.
