Lois Irene Becker

Lois Broxmeyer Becker, 86, Bismarck, passed away October 3, 2012, at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 8, at 11:30 AM at Church of St. Anne in Bismarck with Rev. Paul Eberle, Rev. Paul Becker, and Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 7, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Lois Irene Broxmeyer was born on July 10, 1926, to John Vincent and Irene Catherine Tavis Broxmeyer in Bismarck, ND. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, and graduated from St. Mary's Centeral High School in 1944. She attended St. Alexius School of Nursing from 1944 – 1947, and graduated as a registered nurse. Lois worked at St. Alexius Medical Center for 45 years, mostly on the surgical floor. She retired in 1989. Lois married Louis P. "Louie" Becker in Bismarck on January 9, 1950. Louie passed away in Bismarck on June 5, 1993. Lois and Louie enjoyed 43 years of very warm and loving union. They were members of Church of St. Anne, and Lois was a member of President's Club at the University of Mary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, reading, and always loved to sew and knit. Lois was a great fan of and enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball games. She was devoted to and deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Very simply, yet with such sincerity, she declared "Thank God for them." A plaque Lois received from family that states, "Your concern and sacrifices have become a standard of nursing care and an example for family", clearly defines the deep affection Lois showed her patients. Lois is survived by six children, Bonnie Terry Lanz, Bismarck, Greg Karla Becker, St. Cloud, MN, Blaine Sheryl Becker, Issaquah, WA, Mark Patricia Becker, Bismarck, Kevin Terri Becker, San Bernadino, CA, and Jeanne Wes Wietgrefe, Cottage Grove, MN; 18 grandchildren, Tammy Bob, Tessa, Ryan Becky, Michael Susan, Matthew Courtney, Aric Angela, Shawn Jodi, Chad, Jeremy Erica, Cassandra, Joshua, Christopher, Justin, Cameron, Jordan, Branden, Wade Carla, and Kayla Nick; 13 great-grandchildren, Emma, Georgia, Leighton, Dannielle, Derrick, Taylor, Jayci, Jordynn, Braeden, Easton, Landen, Mya, and Addysen; one brother, Walt Dee; two sisters-in-law, Sharon and Alena; and many nieces and nephews, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents, John and Irene Broxmeyer; her brothers, John Brox and Charles; her sister, Eileen Lehmann; and her granddaughter, Jessica Mosbrucker. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Central High School Becker Family Scholarship Fund or the Lois I. Becker Nursing Student Scholarship Fund at the University of Mary.
