Lois Lundgren

Lois Lundgren, 97, Bismarck, passed away September 9, 2014, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kintyre, ND, with Rev. Susan Anderson officiating. Burial will be held at Mariah Lutheran Cemetery, Kintyre. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, September 12, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Lois was born May 13, 1917, in Richville, MN, the daughter of John and Alta Liversage Becker. At the age of 3 the family moved back to the Braddock area. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated in 1934 from Kintyre High School. Lois took teachers exams and attended Valley City Teacher's College and taught at many schools in the Kintyre, Linton, Temvik areas. While teaching at Woods School she met Vernon Lundgren. Vernon went to the state of Washington for work but didn't stay long as he missed Lois and they were married on November 22, 1940, in the parsonage of First Lutheran Church in Bismarck by Rev. Johns. Three children were born, Kenny, Myrna, and Joyce. Lois quit teaching after the birth of Joyce and became a full-time farmer's wife. They moved to the Archie Nelson farm in 1946 and she continued to live there until June of 1982. Vernon died on May 21, 1979. Lois moved to her new home in Bismarck in 1982 and started a new career. She babysat for many families and those children all became her adopted grandchildren. She babysat Matthew Menge from age 6 weeks until he started school. Matthew continued to visit Lois every year and they enjoyed each other's company. Another very special family to Lois was, Brian and Jane Jesperson and their four children, whom Lois also babysat for. Lois's hobbies were reading, mostly historical books, and watching TV. Her last special day was when she was honored for graduating from Kintyre High School at her 80th class reunion. Quite an accomplishment! She is survived by her daughters, Myrna John Hauck and Joyce Darld Schmitz, all of Bismarck; eight step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren and five step-great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kurtz, Seattle, WA: and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; son, Kenny; her parents; three brother and five sisters, Vada Doolittle, Vesta Doolittle, Curtis Becker, Hubert Becker, Delbert Becker, Dorney Burlingame, Melba Hanson, and Violet Frazier. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Kintyre or Mariah Lutheran Cemetery, Kintyre.
