Lois Salter

Lois Salter 79 of Menoken, North Dakota passed away February 26, 2010 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, with her daughters by her side. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Menoken Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral service, Bismarck, where family will be greeting visitors from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Lois was born in Canada on November 18, 1930, the daughter of Robert and Bernice Bottenfield Morford. She moved from Canada to Bismarck when she was 8 years old, spent her teenage years at Elbow Woods, North Dakota before moving back to Bismarck. She was working at The Bismarck Bus Depot Restaurant where she met Lloyd Salter from Menoken, North Dakota. Lloyd and Lois were married on August 21, 1948, it was the beginning of 60 years of farming and ranching together at Menoken. After Lloyd's passing in February 2008 Lois remained on the farm/ranch until suffering a stroke in December 2008. Because of the effects of the stroke Lois was forced to move to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and remained there until another stroke in January 2010 led to her death. Lois was a member of the North Dakota Cattle Women for 40 years, the Menoken Homemakers Club, served on the Menoken Township Election Board, was active as the treasure of the Menoken Community Church and bowled on a bowling league for many years. Lois was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, nothing could stop her from attending many basketball games, football games, 4-H activities and rodeo events that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. She was a wonderful cook and fantastic baker, always having fresh baked cookies or bars for anyone that stopped to visit. Lois leaves her children Patty Dave Ennen, Menoken, Jan Bashus, Bismarck, Connie Pat Heaton, McKenzie,Tim Terri Salter of Grand Island, Nebraska. Grandchildren Heather Ennen, Nashville, TN, Andrew KaylaEnnen, Menoken, James T.Heather Bashus, Justin Sara Bashus and JessicaMike Zimmerman all of Bismarck, Shawn and Kaydee Heaton, Sterling, Jacob Salter, Grand Island Nebraska and Ryan Nelson and Chrystal TravisJochim of Bismarck. Great grandchildren Logan Ennen, Sterling, Houston and Savannah Bashus and Baby Z all of Bismarck. One brother Robert PamMorford, Minnesota, four sisters Leota Jones, Kansas, Louise JohnHay, Texas Lorraine BoydParker, Texas and Viola HowardGreen, Georgia and one brother in law Keith Salter of Menoken. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Lloyd, her parents, parents in law, brother Chester Morford and his wife Lena, her sister Fern Stevens and her husband Joe, brother in laws Hershel Dalby and Alvie Jones, and sister in laws Dorothy and Virginia Salter. Lois will be missed by all her family, she was a great cook, had a wonderful sense of humor and always had time for her family. The family prefers that memorials be given to the MS Society in honor of her daughter Connie Heaton or the Cancer Society. Our family would like to thank the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for the care that was given to her. A special thank you to the CNA's for the time and wonderful care that you gave to our mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
