Lorna Schauer

Lorna N. Schauer, 85, Dawson, died October 20, 2009, at St. Aloisius Hospital, Harvey. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Dawson Lutheran Church, with Rev. Jacob DeBoer officiating. Burial will be held in the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.Please join the family for a time of sharing and fellowship at Lorna’s home in Dawson from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Lorna was born September 20, 1924, in Napoleon, ND, the daughter of Chris and Nellie Christenson Nord. She was raised and educated in Napoleon, ND. She attended Ellendale Teachers College, receiving her teacher’s certificate. She taught at a country school south of Dawson, ND, as well as at Kintyre, ND. Lorna married Ted Schauer on June 8, 1948, in Napoleon, ND; they made their home on a farm south of Dawson. In 1955, they moved to Dawson. For a short-time, they ran the Dawson Café. Lorna did substitute teaching, worked for the legislature doing proof reading, and as a waitress at the Pirate Inn in Steele. She worked for thirty years at Golden Manor in Steele, ND, as a cook, dietary supervisor, and baker. Throughout the years she cooked at Elks Camp Grassick, Dawson, which she enjoyed immensely. Lorna was very involved in the City of Dawson; serving on the City Council and even as Mayor for a short time. She was also very involved in her church and numerous civic and social clubs and organizations. Lorna’s joy in life was baking for her family and friends. Lorna is survived by her son, Rod Sue Schauer, Valley City, ND; her three daughters, Peggy Howell, and Sheila Berreth, both of Mandan, ND, and Nancy Fred Meland, Harvey, ND; her grandchildren, Josh fiance, Missy Mills Berreth, Becca Berreth, Cody Johnson, Rachael and Sarah Schauer, and Lauren and Kristen Meland; her sisters, Clara Hank Beffert, Sheridan, WY, and Lila Reuben Elhard, Kulm, ND; and sister-in-law, Ruth Nord, Glennwood, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents; her sisters, Dena Miller, and Mildred Friestad; her brothers, Clifton and her twin Lloyd; and son-in-law, Dale Berreth. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Elks Camp Grassick or Dawson Lutheran Church.
