Lorna L Tyson

Lorna L. Tyson, 98, Bismarck, died October 2, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 N 4th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, October 9, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Avenue, Bismarck. Lorna and her twin sister Lorraine were born in Astoria, SD, on May 10, 1916, to Theodore and Hannah Quail Ostroot. In 1924, the family moved to Crosby, ND, and later moved to Minot where she went to school. Lorna attended Reishus Beauty School in Minot and later opened her own, The Grand Pacific Beauty Salon, in Bismarck, and had it for 35 years. She was active in the Hair Academy at the national, state, and local level and won many awards as a hairdresser and cosmetologist. In 1989, she won an award that placed her name on the Wall of Honor at the National Cosmetology office in St. Louis, MO. Lorna was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a circle member. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and a historian of the Lodge. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at Medcenter One Gift Shop and had over 3, 000 hours of volunteer work. Lorna married George Tyson in April 1956. He passed away in 1973. He was an assistant engineer for the State Highway Department. Lorna enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. She and Lorraine enjoyed being part of the Sons of Norway and took trips to Alaska and Norway together. Lorna's family would like to thank the staff of Valley View Heights and Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center for their kindness and care during Lorna's stay there. Also for the help received from St. Alexius Hospice and her good friend, Marilyn Campbell. Lorna is survived by her sister, Rhoda Pederson, Bismarck; her stepchildren and their families, Beverly Lloyd Thompson, Edmund Dawn Tyson, and Elaine Tyson; her sister-in-law, Dolores Ostroot and her family; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her twin sister, Lorraine; her sisters, Charlotte Hutchens and Helen Hammer; her brother, Kenneth; and her stepson, Robert Tyson.
