Lydia Wise

Lydia A. Wise, 82, Dawson, died April 6, 2004, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at the Golden Manor Chapel, Steele, with the Rev. Paul Tjostem officiating. Burial will be in the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel where a prayer service will be held at 6:00. Lydia Alvina Gunsch was born May 8, 1921, in Wishek, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Christina Krein Gunsch. She was raised and educated in the Napoleon and Dawson areas. On December 10, 1944, Lydia married David Odell Wise in Napoleon. After their marriage they farmed south of Dawson. In 1959, they moved into Dawson. Lydia worked, for a short time, at the Woodlawn Hotel in Steele. She also cooked at the Dawson School and worked for the Green Thumb Assistance program. Lydia was a member of the United Church of Christ. She was very passionate about life. She had a strong personality and lived with high enthusiasm. Lydia was very spiritually aware of God's grace and love, which gave her tremendous strength and courage. Through her long battle with cancer she fought fearlessly and with great determination. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and loved cooking for her family. Lydia is survived by her husband, David; one daughter and son-in-law, Angie and David Johnson of Steele; one son, Glenn Wise of Casper, WY; her grandchildren, Clint George and his wife Joyce and their children Brittany, Brandy, and Bree of Bismarck, Darcie and her husband Byron Rohrich and their children Sadie and Kayla of Steele, Keith George of Bismarck, Tayler Johnson of Steele, Kari Wise of Kansas City, MO, and Dena Wise and her son Keaton of Bismarck; her sisters, Alma Kemmet of Dawson, Hilda Bob Jahner of Linton, Anne Mittleider of Steele, Leah Floyd Randall of Billings, MT, Irene Ralph Wise of Bismarck, and Eleanor Lyle Johnson of Bismarck; her brothers, Clarence Diane Gunsch of Sioux Falls, SD and Eddie Pearl Gunsch of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Benny, Ervin, and Elmer, one sister, Ella, and one son-in-law, Larry George.
