Lynora Scherbenske

Lynora Scherbenske, long-time Tuttle resident, died on October 13, 2007. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, at Tuttle United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Tuttle Community Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and continue one hour prior to services at the church. Lynora was born on the Sauter family farm in Tuttle on October 21, 1924. She was the daughter of Eberhardt and Mathilda Sauter. Lynora attended school in Tuttle, graduating from Tuttle High School in 1942. On November 19, 1943, Lynora married Art Scherbenske. They lived on the Scherbenske homestead until building a home just west of the Tuttle School in 1952. Lynora was an active member of the Tuttle United Methodist Church, serving as pianist and organist for many years. She especially enjoyed the years of accompanying the Men's Chorus and the Men's Quartet. She also served as clerk of the Tuttle School Board for several years, worked at the Tuttle Dairy and enjoyed the family greenhouse and gardening. Visiting with friends and neighbors who came to purchase plants at the greenhouse was a pleasant part of spring for many years. Lynora made sure the Scherbenske yard always had lots of flowers, including peonies originally grown and tended by her mother. Lynora enjoyed watching baseball and basketball. She attended the World Series when the Twins played in 1965. Lynora and Art spent many hours watching baseball and basketball on television during their retirement years. Art and Lynora traveled with friends and family to Europe, Asia, Australia, and many U.S. states. Lynora is survived by her husband, Art; three children, Alan Barb Scherbenske, Kenmare, Steve Anne Scherbenske, Aurora, CO,and Linda Scherbenske, Aurora, CO; and her three grandsons, Kevin Angie Scherbenske, Bismarck, and Erik and Sawyer Scherbenske, Aurora, CO. Her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, and Adyson Scherbenske of Bismarck brought her much joy in recent years. She is also survived by one sister, Mae McFerrin; one brother, Eddie Saunter; sisters-in-law, Rose Scherbenske and Alice Scherbenske; and many nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. Preceding Lynora in death were her parents, Eberhardt and Mathilda Freeh Sauter; her sisters, Hilda Hinkel, Louise Sauter, Viola Bailey, Erna Riskedahl, and Ruby Sauter; and her brothers, Walter Sauter and Fred Sauter.
