Mabel Nelson

Mabel P. Nelson, 82, Bismarck, died peacefully at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center on Sunday, December, 14, 2008. Funeral services with be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 19th at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel, Bismarck, with Pastor Dale Nabben officiating. Burial with be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. The family with be there to greet friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Friday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel. Mabel Pearl Tschaekofske was born February 24, 1926, on a farm northeast of Dodge, ND, the daughter of Edward and Regina Goetz Tschaekofske. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Dodge High School in 1943. After graduation, she taught in the rural schools in the Dodge area for 3 years. In 1946, she entered nurse’s training at the Bismarck Hospital and graduated in 1949. On October 22, 1950 she married Lawrence K. Nelson at the Golden Valley American Lutheran Church. They lived in Hazelton, ND where her husband was the Amoco Bulk agent for 32 years. She helped Lawrence with the business and the couple retired in 1980 and moved to Bismarck in 1989. They were married 50 years on October 22, 2000. While living in Hazelton, Mabel was a member of the Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church. Mabel was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and a Ladies Aid member for many years. While living in Bismarck, she was a member of Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included reading, embroidering, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends which she dearly loved. Mabel helped many people with her knowledge of nursing while living in Hazelton. She loved to bake “goodies” for her grandchildren. Mabel had an enduring Faith in Christ and her daily prayer was the center of her spirituality. This strong faith was conveyed to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Rodney L. Nelson, and his wife Cheryl of Omaha, NE and one daughter Beverly K. Doolittle, and her husband Douglas of Bismarck, ND. Mabel is survived by five grandchildren, Kari, Wesley, and Wyatt Doolittle, and Matthew and Colton Nelson. Her husband, Lawrence, preceded her in death on November 8, 2000. Mabel’s parents, four brothers, and two sisters also preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hazelton, ND.
